It ain't quite South Dakota

Since most of our waiting activities have been in the city, we were pretty excited for our day trip to the country this week.  The city we are in is about 4 million and the surrounding area is another million.  Our guide told us it would take about 45 minutes to get to the country where its mostly farming (rice).  We didn't exactly go the farm but we did stop at a small village.

We got out and strolled around the town.  It was interesting as in the city everyone lives in apartments.  But out here, they were all houses.  Small, simple, and simply furnished on the inside but houses none the less.

Outside of walking around, one activity our guide always does is have her group stop and buy candy to hand out to the kids in the village.

9 RMB for a bag of suckers and a picture of me in my Hawks shirt (got that Mr Pete?), and we were off to play 'strangers handing out candy.'  While it was kind of odd, the kids and parents clearly knew our guide and they literally came running from down the block to get a quick hello and a sucker.  It was definitely a fun little outing.
