Jack gets cultured

Jack's adoption agency adopts many Korean children in the US and so they do a Korean cultural day every year.  They had many games and really cute Korean themed crafts.  They also had Korean food.  Jack liked some of the games, and tried to use the golf club as a hockey stick (according to his dad).

Above, a Tae Kwon Do demonstration which is the national martial art of Korea.  They yell alot though and Jack didn't care for that too much.

These are traditional Korea dancers.

The Hugs of Jack

Man, the dude gets around.   This is only the last week!
And these pics don't include the Badger girls drooling over him while dressed in full U of M regalia in Madison for the Badger-Gopher hockey game.  Talk about a wingman...

Minnesota Hats off to Thee...

To thy colors true we shall ever be.  Firm and strong united are we.  Rah rah rah for Ski U Mah.  Rah Rah Rah Rah.  Rah for the U of M.
Jack's first live Gopher game and Jack's first sports road trip.  We hit Madison to see the Gopher-Badger hockey game.  I believe Jack learned to say "Badgers Suck" tonight.  5-2.  Eat that Madison.  :)

Hey, I've got my new shoes on

Both friend and stranger alike often ask us if Jackson is ever not smiling and happy.  He is very even keeled and mellow.  But there are things that he finds upsetting.  He has been wearing soft leather shoes and I thought that we might try these cute little Sketchers that we got as hand-me-downs.  He was not happy and was not consolable until they were removed from his feet.

Party Down with the Birthday Boy

It took awhile to decide what to do for Jackson's first birthday.  My initial thought was to invite all of the neighborhood kids over, but then i realized just how many neighborhood kids there are.  Plus, Jackson didn't really need any more gifts (our neighborhood has been so generous).  So instead we decided on a simple celebration with Unkie Matt, Grandma B, and good friends KK and Steven.  Below you will find pictures of Jackson dressed in his traditional Korean first birthday attire.

Here he is participating in a Korean choosing ceremony.  He chose the knife which means he will be a chef and the paint brush which means he will be artistic.

Jack didn't care too much for the cake itself but he got a big kick out of the fire.  On his highchair you can see the telephone he got from Grandma K. It was one of his favorite gifts.

Below is a video of Jack deciding his fate.  In the background you can hear Dr. Mommy cheering on his choices.

Apple-many children
Ruler-good with his hands
Bow and arrow (ruler with a string tied to it)-warrior
Money-rich but not smart
Knife-chef
Paintbrush-artistic
Book-scholar

Hair Cut? I don't need a hair cut!

Before the big birthday, Jackson got his haircut at this fancy kids hair-dresser in the mall.  this is not something we would usually do, but when grandma b and mommy tried to cut his locks, he moved around too much and we knew we needed a professional.

He didn't mind it at first.  He thought the car was pretty cool.

But once the cutting started, it was another story.  He didn't want to watch Baby Einstein or watch mom blow bubbles or anything.
Dad seems pretty happy with the results!  In fact, it was unanimous that he looked very good but he no longer looked like a baby.
